Walking in His Spirit with my spirit

Author: Michael Bam

Lets start with the word of God. For creation itself begun with a word from God.

“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24 NKJV

Here a distinction is made between the spirit of a man and the Spirit of God. The human spirit is not drawn to sin. The fleshly component is. Our God wanting pure and undefiled worship, is only satisfied by us -through the worshipping of Him with, in and through our spirit. The flesh cannot achieve this, for it is sinful.

“And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” Genesis 6:3 NKJV

This striving, what does it mean, but that there is contention. A war between man and God; between One Who is Holy and those that are unholy. Now holy means separate from lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit”  Romans 8:1 NKJV . This part, “..according to the Spirit” shows that the Holy Spirit is leading our spirit. God's Spirit being the greater, leads our spirit the lesser. The flesh is lead by the world. Neither the flesh, nor the spirit can truly lead themselves, but require a greater to lead them.

See then to “..walk..”  is to do work, if you work you are doing something and if what you are doing is breaking the law then you must be punished. This punishment is payment for the work of breaking the law. The flesh being sinful cannot but break God's law and such a person walking in the flesh is sentenced as a lawbreaker and such a lawbreaker is sentenced to death, this being the condemnation.

”For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2 NKJV. The law of sin and death is the laws of God in the old testament, without a relationship with God, where upon the law only rules a line and all those that step over the line it accuses of sinning. It has this that it makes known to us what is sin. Though if we are under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, then our spirit following God's Spirit does not sin. This is so because it is in our spirit that the Holy Spirit empowers us and helps us. The leading and following relationship of Father and son or daughter, respectively and likewise the God and servant relationship, these relationships are the medium through which God helps our spirit's not to sin.

“For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,” Romans 8:3 NKJV. The flesh sins so it will always transgress the law of God. So the law “..was weak through the flesh,”  in that it did not bring us into right standing with God, nor made us righteous.

Our Father made a way for us to be righteous and this “..God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,” instead of man being condemned and that to death.

The debt we owed God was paid by Jesus Christ who God had sent in the flesh, He became Man with a sinful nature (“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 NKJV), but did not sin and died in our place so that we might live.

“that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”  Romans 8:4 NKJV. So then transgression ceases when we walk in the Spirit (the Holy Spirit leading our spirit).

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” Romans 8:5 NKJV. The flesh is self destructive and that is it's nature. The spirit focuses on life which is through godliness, as it's mind is on the Spirit of God when lead by Him. The very law of God is a witness that God seeks godliness.

“And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” 1 John 2:17 NKJV.

“For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”  Romans 8:6 NKJV.

“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.” Romans 8:7 NKJV. Did God not create us and does He not see us as His children? If something causes a child to suffer harm, is it not the father's place to strive against such a thing? So also our heavenly Father is against anything that does His children harm. The flesh is an enemy, or did God in the form of Jesus Christ say in vain about our Father, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”?

“So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:8 NKJV.

Putting it in other words, see it this way:

We are sinful. God is not. However we human beings consisting of three components that make us up as a whole; these being spirit, flesh and our soul. The flesh is our physical body and the spirit is the spiritual body. Our spirit (human spirit) is the one component that is not drawn to sin. The flesh has a sinful nature. It is drawn to sin.

The spirit and the flesh are as two pilots. One needs to be a co-pilot and the other the main pilot. The precious cargo is your soul. Now the pilot takes instructions where and how to fly the plane from the air control tower. Which can be likened to the Holy Spirit. The co-pilot takes orders from the pilot and the pilot from the air control tower. This is the chain of command. This is how it works with our spirit being lead by God, in the form of the Holy Spirit:

The Holy Spirit tells your spirit how to fly the plane, which is your life. Your spirit being the pilot, takes the orders from the Holy Spirit and commands the co-pilot, which is the flesh -how to help fly the plane. The spirit flies the plane, leading the co-pilot to help him fly it, under the mighty leadership of the Holy Spirit.

This soul lands safely in heaven to be with God always.

This is the ideal, but here is what we've been dealing with our whole life:

Since we're raised in a world where even the most religious devout Christians do not grow spiritually past a certain point, if even at all. This means the spirit is malnourished and the flesh is well nourished and is then stronger than the spirit. On top of that the kingdom of darkness created a an whole buffet of entertainment and an array of lifestyle paths, in order to steer the masses toward fleshly emphasised living. The flesh piloting that particular persons life causes them to crash land, their life ending in flames and their next life being eternal death to be spent in flames.

It can then be said that the manner in which one ended this life, determines how the next life will begin.

To avoid this one needs to be born again (your spirit by the the Holy Spirit) as Christ Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:5 (b-d) NKJV. Now not seeing the kingdom of God means that you are not part of it and if you aren't part of this kingdom you will by no means be granted access to heaven. Moreover the King of this kingdom, God the Father, how shall you see Him let alone enter His kingdom, if you do not follow the only Path to Him which is Jesus Christ?

You get born again by accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour and living according to all that He said we should, as we see in the books: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Jesus said, “..I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6b NKJV. Note that the old testament is still in effect. There are some laws that are fulfilled in Jesus, so that when we believe in Him, we no longer have to do some of these such as sacrificing animals, hence He is called the Lamb of God; but if you do not believe in Him, in whom we have the new testament, (which is a better covenant and an extension of the old -and is a extension of the old because the old one alone, without Christ, could not fulfil the righteous requirement of God because it was weak through the flesh, [“For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:4&5 NKJV]because the flesh wants to disobey God continually), then you actually are still bound to do animal sacrifices and keep other laws which are fulfilled in God's Son Jesus. Then what shall we say? Do as you please for the price for sin has been paid? No -not at all! If we believe in Him we will do what He, Jesus Christ says. Which when you obey His word these laws are fulfilled in Jesus for Jesus Christ did the will of His Father therefore it is said rightly about Him by the Father whose law we must uphold:

1 “Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles. 2 He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, Nor cause His voice to be heard in the street. 3 A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth. 4 He will not fail nor be discouraged, Till He has established justice in the earth; And the coastlands shall wait for His law.” 5 Thus says God the Lord, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it, And spirit to those who walk on it: 6 “I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles, 7 To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.” Isaiah 42:1-7 NKJV You need to believe that His word is true, that His word is life. For if you do not obey His word  brother and sister you cannot be saved. He is the word of life and He spoke to us His words which are life giving. Beloved this is not a hard thing to understand, you know that it written that God spoke and created those things He created:

“Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.” Genesis 1:3 NKJV.

Therefore do not be unbelieving even though we cannot fully comprehend how great the power of God is, but be believing on account of His Son Who is the Witness sent from God to us, Jesus Christ Who is now seated at the right hand of God. This is what Jesus said to the hard hearted people who did not believe Him concerning the authenticity of His words which witnessed:

“If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true. There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true.” John 5:31 NKJV.

If you believe His witness, you believe His word and if you believe His word you have eternal life and by believing His word.

So believe Him when He says you cannot live without eating spiritually. He said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” Matthew 4:4b NKJV. You cannot grow spiritually if you do not receive spiritual food. You cannot eat spiritual food if you don't take the time and make the decision that you are going to be responsible and do what you must to get that spiritual food and grow. The spirit does not die like the fleshly body. Here is a lesson here. The spirit is eternal but the flesh is temporary. Why do you put so much emphasis on the flesh which passes away?

24 because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, 25 But the word of the Lord endures forever. Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.” 1 Peter 1:24+25 NKJV.

So the flesh that perishes must be made of lower priority than the spirit, which is fed by the very word that God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit speaks which, “endures forever.” The food for the human spirit is both the written word and the spoken word of God.

Simply put: sermons, reading bible, praying (both in the spirit and with human language), praise and worship are ways to obtain spiritual food. One can pray and ask our Father to provide spiritual food also through His Spirit. Then to become trained in righteousness you must learn to live and apply Godly practices that please Him. Keeping His commandments because we love Him and focusing more on the spiritual than on the physical. We should also focus on the physical body, but the spiritual body must receive the most emphasis.

Fasting to bring the flesh and its habits under submission to the Holy Spirit is a must for every child of God in order to become Christ like. Which we are all called to because Jesus Christ is the only Way to the Father. So if we follow that Way, we are in other words, following Jesus Christ and if you follow Him you will do the things He did. Those things please God and God the Father Himself testified, “And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”  Matthew 3:17 NKJV.

No one of you brothers and sisters, has an excuse after today, but each of you has gained knowledge of your responsibility as His children. God is Holy and He has called me to make these things which are part of the gospel, known to you so that you may be holy and live godly. Which is to say, having the character of God the Father in the way that He wants us to have it, that is godliness.

These following words are from God the Father:

“Those who walk in the Spirit according to My leading, love Me, themselves and others. For that which is born of Me is spirit. The spirit loves but the flesh does not. I am the Spirit of Love; the Holy Spirit, therefore My children also are loving."

The spirit does not do the things of the flesh, therefore it can only be holy just as I am Holy.

The spirit is not drawn to sin like the flesh is, for the spirit is born of Me, I am the Spirit of Life – the Author of it. Sin is destructive and foolish; it is the choice of the death.

The spirit is wise and mature -already from a young age. The spirit does not sin. It is godly and drawn to life: Me. Therefore the devil tries everything to keep you from walking in the spirit. The spirit is born of My pleasure. For My pleasure it exists, so only walking in it, you can please Me.”

Live from this day forward in the goodness and Life giving of His words.

To our God and Father be the glory and honour forever. This I pray: “that He would grant you according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,” (Ephesians 3:16 NKJV) so that your spirit which is the inner man may be strong and walk in God the Fathers will, according to His power and grace.

He, “who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,” (Galatians 1:4 NKJV) so that you my brethren my find your life in Christ Jesus.

“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” Luke 9:24 NKJV.

Brethren walk according to the example given to us by Christ Jesus through His life, through the grace of God. All other roads are those that leads one astray. There is one Road to the Father and Jesus Christ is that Road.

Peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.
